Who is your favorite Yankees player and why?

Chandler: Currently my favorite player is Robinson Cano because he has 15 home runs and 40 rbi (runs batted in). These are pretty good stats this far into the season. He is also a great defensive player and very smart on the field. He also played for the Dominican Republic National Team who won the World Baseball Classic this past year. With the Yankees he has one ring and multiple pennants. Therefore he has a lot of experience.

Tom: My favorite player is Mariano Rivera. So far Rivera has 23 saves and 1 blown save. He has the most all time save with 631. Rivera is the greatest reliever in baseball history and my favorite player.  

Do you think the Yankees will win their division and why?

Chandler: I think the Yankees will win their division because of their disabled list. With so many guys out a lot of people are getting play time so once the injured players come back a lot of people will have experience on the field. Therefore when it gets late in the year the Yankee will have multiple players to turn to if one player is not doing too good.

Tom: I feel that the Yankees do have a good chance of winning their division. This is because even with their “b” team they have been able to stay way over .500.

Which player on the disabled list is missed the most for the Yankees and why?

Chandler: I think that Derek Jeter is missed the most for the Yankees. I think this because one he is the team captain. He leads the team and without him there they have the loss of a leader. Also  Jeter gets a lot of hits with puts him on base and scores other players so that would be a boost to their offense.

Tom: I agree, Derek Jeter is definitely the most missed player on the Yankees. Not only is he a great player but he is a great teammate too. Also many fans miss watching him play.

Which Yankees player has had the biggest impact this season and why?

Chandler: I think that Lyle Overbay has had the biggest impact for the Yankees because he played in the place of Mark Teixeira in the beginning of the season. He has 8 home runs and 29 rbi. Therefore he is a good offensive player.

Tom: I think that there has been more than one player too greatly impact the Yankees. I think that the second string players like Nix and Adams have played a big role in filling the opening left by the wounded Yankees on the DL.

Do you think Derek Jeter will retire after this season and why?

Chandler: I think that Derek Jeter will retire after this season because he is old. He is currently 38 years of age. That is pretty old for a baseball player. Also he has a bad injury. Over the off season he was injured then he came back and got injured again. I think that the injuries will take a big toll on his playing and and skill.

Tom: I do not think that Jeter will retire after this season. This is because he has already missed half the season and I’m sure he wants to try to play a bit more before he is done. Also even though he is old he is in pretty good shape besides his injury. He might not be a shortstop but Jeter will hang around for a little while longer.

Golf

Spring is the beginning of the golf season for amateurs, like myself. Golf is a great fun sport that people of all ages can play. There are many golf courses open to the public that people can go to,for a fee, and play nine or eighteen holes by them self or with friends. The objective of golf is to get a golf ball into a hole in as few shots as possible (Note: The embedded link also has the rules of golf and answers to questions). What makes this difficult is that there are fourteen different clubs that one needs to know how to use and how far one can hit them. These clubs are different because of the angle, a.k.a. loft, of the club. This changes how far and high the ball goes when one hits it. When I have gone out to play I have seen teenagers and senior citizens and everyone in between. Therefore this is a sport of all ages. Even if you watch a PGA golf match one can see young players and old players. My personal favorite golfer is Bubba Watson because I once met him and he has won a few tournaments. Golf is a very relaxing sport because it does not involve running or contact and usually has nice scenery or locations throughout the course. Also you walk to wherever your ball lands and you keep playing without feeling the pressure of a clock or score board. The only negative to playing golf is that it is one of the most expensive sports because every time that one plays one has to pay money. Also the proper clothing and equipment costs money too, but if one really likes golf then they will make time and money to play. I say that spring is the beginning of the golf season for amateurs because professionals play year round. Watching professionals makes the sport seem very easy, but when one plays for the first time they can easily get frustrated because it is actually very hard. The biggest key to the game is patience. Even the professionals have good and bad days, although their bad days are amazing days to amateurs. Golf is hard at first, but once one plays more and learns the sport it can get very fun and enjoyable.

Yankees Disabled List

Surprisingly the New York Yankees completed a sweep of the Kansas City Royals. Why so surprising? That can be simply answered with two words;”disabled list”. The New York Yankees’s disabled list has sidelined many of their big contracts and starters. They are second in the league with total money spent on players and the biggest contracts are not even playing.With many young and inexperienced players the Yankees keep winning and just recently took first place in their division. If you click on the link above that leads you to their disabled list you can see the names of who is injured. All of those players would be playing at least once a week; that is because pitchers only pitch every five days to rest their arms. If one adds up all of the salaries on the disabled list one would get a result of $79,028,790. That is a lot of money that is going to waste right now. Also two of their biggest contracts, Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez, will not even be playing again for two months. That is a long time to be paying a person millions of dollars to go to rehab. I am quite disappointed with the extent of this disabled list, but I can not be too upset because they are in first place and that is without some very talented players. In conclusion, the New York Yankees have a lot of talent and starting positions on the disabled list along with seventy nine million dollars.

The New York Yankees are a very illustrious baseball organization. They have won twenty seven world championships along with forty American League championships. They have produced five CY Young Award winners, twenty Most Valuable Player winners, and eight Rookie of the Year winners. As one can see they are a very impressive organization with many accomplishments. That is shown now as they continue to win with half of their star players. Although their disable list is large and as a lot of talent on it one thing that will not be disrupted is the success of the New York Yankees.

First Round of the NBA Playoffs

(FC) The first round of the NBA Playoffs has come and gone with some upsets and some very clear winners. There have been some great plays and some not so great plays. Me, personally, did not have a very great first round because my favorite team is the Boston Celtics. Although they put up a great fight, in the end the New York Knicks beat them in Game 6. One of the biggest upsets that occurred in the first round was the Golden State Warriors defeating the Denver Nuggets in 6 games. At the beginning of the series I had no preference towards either team, but around the middle of it I wanted the Warriors to keep winning. The main reason was because of Stephen Curry as he was making so many shots and made the series very interesting. The 2 very clear winners were the only 2 teams to sweep, win the series without losing a single game, their opponents. These 2 teams are the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs. The Heat beat the Milwaukee Bucks and the Spurs beat the Los Angeles Lakers. Based upon the results of these 2 match ups one can conclude that they were not very challenging for the winners. Other teams that are still playing include the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Memphis Grizzlies. I preferred all of these teams except for the Memphis Grizzlies because I thought that the Los Angeles Clippers were having an incredible season by winning their division. Other than that I agree upon the results of the first round and I am excited for the second round.

Now that the first round is done the second round is starting. As for predictions I have a few. I predict that in the Heat versus Bulls series that the Heat will win because they have the MVP, most valuable player, on their team, which is Lebron James, and they are the reigning champions. For the Pacers versus Knicks series I predict the Pacers will win. This is partially because the Knicks beat the Celtics and also because I believe that the Pacers have a lot of athletic players. In the Western Conference I predict the Grizzlies over the Thunder because the Thunder are missing their star point guard and the Grizzlies are on a roll after beating the Clippers. Finally, my last prediction is the Spurs over the Warriors because the Spurs have more skill and experience on their roster than the Warriors. Those are my predictions for the second round of the NBA Playoffs now let us see how many actually turn out to be correct.

Joe Dimaggio

(CRR)      Joe Dimaggio is an American hero. One that mentions him at this status is The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway. The old man and young boy are talking about the current baseball news when the old man says, “‘Have faith in the Yankees my son. Think of the great DiMaggio.’” This shows Ernest Hemingways’s point of view on Joe Dimaggio. Also throughout the novel Joe Dimaggio is referred to as the great Dimaggio. Ernest Hemingway thought high of Joe Dimaggio.

Joe Dimaggio had many great achievements. First he had a great career as a baseball player. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955. His total career stats were a .325 batting average with over 1,700 games played. The most home runs that he hit in one year was 46 and he finished his career with a total of 361 home runs and there are many more of these impressive stats that show his incredible career with the New York Yankees. He was also in the military for three years right in the middle of his illustrious baseball career. He served  most of his time in the United States, but his presence built up confidence and morale for the nation and soldiers. He was also a baseball player for the Seventh Army Air Force Team and a physical trainer during his time served. Leaving his baseball career to go to the army is a noble thing to do and he helped other while there.

Joe Dimaggio had a great legacy. Bill Clinton even once said, “Today, America lost one of the century’s most beloved heroes, Joe Dimaggio.” This was said on the day of his death, March 8, 1999. Joe Dimaggio was an American hero because he was a famous baseball player and veteran from World War II. As one can see Joe Dimaggio did not just play baseball, but he excelled at it and he served his nation. Although he rarely was at the front lines fighting it is the thought that counts. At any moment he had the potential to go to Europe and fight alongside other Americans and he was not backing down. The great Dimaggio is an American hero.
